2013 PEER/UNION COUNSELING PROGRAM
A Ten-Week Training Course to Help People with Information & Referrals
Need Help?
Everyone has problems in their life at some time. With the sluggish economy, more people live from paycheck to paycheck and worry about their jobs, rent, having utilities disconnected, keeping food on the table, etc. Knowing where to get help and showing others how to “plug into the system” by utilizing local, state & federal services, is an important skill that can help people with critical needs.

Peer/Union Counseling
The Peer/Union Counseling Program teaches interested persons about the human service programs available in the community and how to use them. Participants learn how to listen & communicate with others, evaluate problems and make referrals to community agencies where assistance is available.

Everyone is Invited
This program is open to everyone! The main reason for enrolling is a desire to help others (and perhaps yourself) and an interest in learning about the what, where and how of community resources.

The Northwest Central Labor Council, in cooperation with United Way of Greater Lafayette, makes this opportunity available so people know what help is available in their community. Hundreds of people have been trained over the years and serve in their workplaces and agencies as information and
referral agents. (In union shops these graduates are called “Union Counselors”)

Program Information
Classes begin Wednesday, January 15, 2014 and are held from 6 to 9 p.m. on ten consecutive Wednesday evenings. Cost is $50.00 (make checks out to Northwest Central Labor Council). Preregistration is required and may be done through Earl Cox at (765) 742-9077 ext. 231.  Classes meet at various agencies and union halls. Guest speakers are professionals and service providers from local agencies. You can download the course schedule here.
